Canon Releases New Canon WFT-E4 II A & WFT-E5A Wireless Transmiters

Canon shooters get a nice little surprise at CES this year with canon’s announcement of a new line of wireless transmitters. These will definitely be an improvement on past transmitters as the new models allow for more complex things such as Media Server Mode which will allow you to stream images directly to a DNLA enabled television or digital photo frame. More exciting is the Camera Linking Function that allows a master camera with a wireless transmitter attached to control up to 10 slave cameras (for a total of 11 cameras) and fire them all at the same time. The down side to the Camera Linking Function is that each camera will need it’s on wireless transmitter, the word “ouch” comes to mind at that thought. Still included is the standard ability to send images to a computer via Wi-Fi (a, b, g and n flavors all accepted).

Prices haven’t been announced for the full line but the 5D’s WFT-E4 II A and 7D’s WFT-E5A will run you $699 (still waiting to hear what it will run for the 1D Mark IV’s WFT-E2 II A).

You can read the full press release over at Canon’s site here.
